Cold Wave to Continue in Delhi and North India as 2025 Approaches.
North India, including the capital Delhi, is set to experience a chilly start to the New Year, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting a significant drop in minimum temperatures across the region. As intermittent rains continue in several parts of Northwest India, the IMD has forecast a fall of 3-5 degrees Celsius in the minimum temperature over the next two days.
West and Central India are also expected to see temperatures dip by 3-5 degrees Celsius, while East India will experience a 2-4 degrees Celsius decrease. Severe cold wave conditions are expected to hit parts of Himachal Pradesh on December 30 and 31. Cold wave conditions are also anticipated in isolated areas of Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Rajasthan in the first half of January.
In Kashmir, heavy snowfall has already led to the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, leaving tourists stranded. Additionally, flight and railway services have been disrupted, causing widespread inconvenience. Srinagar and other areas in Kashmir received their first snowfall of the season on Friday, blanketing the region in white.
The weather department has also warned of dense to very dense fog in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan from December 28 to 30, with similar conditions expected in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and sub-Himalayan West Bengal through early January.
