Hollywood icon Tom Cruise has been awarded the US Navy’s highest civilian honor, the Distinguished Public Service Award, for his exceptional contributions to raising public awareness of the Navy and Marine Corps. The honor was presented by US Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro during a ceremony held in London, where Cruise is currently working on his upcoming projects.

The Navy recognized Cruise for his impactful portrayal of military life in films such as Top Gun, Born on the Fourth of July, A Few Good Men, and the Mission Impossible franchise. In a statement, the Navy commended Cruise for “increasing public awareness and appreciation for our highly trained personnel and the sacrifices they make while in uniform.”

Cruise expressed gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing his admiration for the courage and dedication of those serving in the armed forces.

On the acting front, Cruise’s next highly anticipated film, Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning, is set to release in May 2025. He is also venturing into the horror-thriller genre with the upcoming film Deeper, currently in early development. Directed by Doug Liman, Deeper follows an astronaut’s chilling encounter with a terrifying force in an unexplored ocean trench. Liman expressed excitement, saying, “I have never done one, and neither has Tom.”
