Lok Sabha to Debate Constitution Amid BJP-Congress Clash

The Lok Sabha is set to begin a historic debate on the Constitution today, marking the 75th anniversary of its adoption. The discussions will run through December 14, followed by a Rajya Sabha debate on December 16-17. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will open the debate, with Prime Minister Modi expected to respond on Saturday.

The session unfolds amid heightened tensions between the BJP and Congress. The BJP has accused Congress of links to US billionaire George Soros and questioned funding sources for the Bharat Jodo Yatra, while Congress plans to spotlight key issues like inflation and unemployment. The INDIA bloc has also criticized the Rajya Sabha chairman, triggering further controversy.

Both parties have issued attendance whips, signaling the debate’s significance. Congress leaders Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi may address the Lok Sabha, while Amit Shah is expected to initiate discussions in the Rajya Sabha.

As the two sides prepare for a potentially heated exchange, opposition leaders, including Trinamool Congress’s Derek O’Brien, aim to refocus on public concerns such as unemployment and the Manipur crisis. Whether the debate will conclude without major disruptions remains to be seen.
