Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are bracing for Cyclone Fengal, which is expected to make landfall this afternoon between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram, close to Puducherry. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclone, pronounced Feinjal, will bring wind speeds of 70-80 kmph, with gusts up to 90 kmph, along with widespread rainfall.

Heavy to very heavy rain has been forecast across northern and delta districts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Kallakurichi, and Cuddalore, as well as Puducherry. Authorities have warned residents in vulnerable areas to exercise caution and adhere to safety protocols.

Flight operations in Chennai have been significantly impacted due to adverse weather conditions, with several flights delayed or canceled. The Chennai airport authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are working to minimize disruptions.

Local administrations are on high alert, with disaster response teams deployed to ensure public safety and manage emergency situations. Fishermen have been advised against venturing into the sea, and temporary shelters have been prepared to accommodate those in need.

Cyclone Fengal is expected to cause localized flooding, fallen trees, and power disruptions in affected areas. Residents are urged to follow official advisories and remain indoors during the peak of the cyclone’s impact.

The government and emergency services remain vigilant, ready to respond to the evolving situation as Cyclone Fengal approaches landfall.
