Anurag Kashyap’s Long-Delayed Debut Film Paanch to Finally Release After 22 Years
After over two decades of delays, Anurag Kashyap’s debut film, Paanch, is set to hit theaters in 2025. Producer Tutu Sharma confirmed the news, stating the film’s restoration process is underway, and it will be ready for release within the next six months.
Completed 22 years ago, Paanch faced significant hurdles, including objections from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) over its depictions of drug abuse, violence, and strong language. While these issues were eventually resolved, other production challenges further delayed its release.
Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Sharma expressed his excitement about finally bringing Paanch to audiences. “This film is a masterpiece, with standout performances from Kay Kay Menon and Tejaswini Kolhapure. According to me, it’s Anurag Kashyap’s best work to date. I believe audiences will agree once they see it,” he shared.
The film, inspired by the notorious Joshi-Abhyankar serial murders of the 1970s, features a gripping storyline and a talented cast, including Aditya Srivastava, Vijay Maurya, and Joy Fernandes. Kashyap’s dark, intense narrative style is expected to resonate with modern audiences, especially amidst the current revival of classic and cult films in Indian cinema.
Fans of Kashyap’s work can finally experience the film that set the foundation for his iconic filmmaking journey. Paanch promises to be a compelling addition to Indian cinema’s legacy when it releases in 2025.
