Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis hit back at Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar after the latter made a personal remark about Fadnavis’ wife, Amruta Fadnavis, during a rally in Nagpur. Kumar had sarcastically commented that while the public fights for “dharma,” the deputy CM’s wife was busy making Instagram reels.
Fadnavis condemned the remarks, stating that creating memes and inappropriate comments about his wife is behavior that reflects poorly on those involved. He expressed deep frustration, adding, “Those who engage in such actions should feel ashamed. If you want to fight, fight directly.”
Fadnavis also defended his wife, acknowledging that politics often invites personal attacks but urging patience. He mentioned that despite opposition scrutiny over the years, no wrongdoing was found against him, leading his opponents to resort to personal jibes.
The exchange between Fadnavis and Kanhaiya Kumar comes amid heightened political tensions as Maharashtra gears up for a critical assembly election on November 20, where Fadnavis’ BJP-led Mahayuti alliance will face off against the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi.
Fadnavis had earlier called for Hindu unity and accused opposition parties of engaging in “vote jihad” during elections, adding fuel to the political discourse ahead of the polls.
