President-elect Donald Trump has named entrepreneur Elon Musk and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy to spearhead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an initiative aimed at reducing federal bureaucracy and streamlining government operations. Musk and Ramaswamy will act as external advisors, offering insights in collaboration with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget.
“These two exemplary Americans will drive large-scale reform, cutting wasteful expenditures and dismantling outdated government structures,” Trump stated. “Their leadership will support our goal of delivering a smaller, more efficient government by July 4, 2026—a landmark achievement on our country’s 250th anniversary.”
DOGE, named with a nod to the cryptocurrency Dogecoin that Musk has popularized, aims to modernize government management through a transparent, entrepreneurial approach. In his response, Musk highlighted the importance of transparency, pledging that DOGE’s actions would be shared online. He also promised a public “leaderboard” of inefficiencies to engage citizens in the mission.
Ramaswamy, who withdrew from the Ohio Senate appointment to accept this role, emphasized his commitment to eliminate redundancies, stating, “We will not go gently.”
The newly formed DOGE commission is anticipated to operate under the Federal Advisory Committee Act, setting new standards for advisory transparency and accountability within the Trump administration.
