Thalapathy Vijay Launches Thamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam, Marks New Political Path.

Actor-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay officially entered Tamil Nadu’s political arena with the launch of his party, Thamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). In a 40-minute speech before a massive crowd of over 3 lakh supporters, Vijay outlined TVK’s ideology, boldly reshaping the legacy of Dravidian politics.

Breaking from the traditional anti-God stance of Dravidian icon Periyar, Vijay declared, “We will not accept Periyar’s rejection of gods. But we embrace his ideals of social justice and women’s empowerment.” This nuanced stance sets him apart from the DMK’s core ideology, which upholds atheism. Vijay referenced DMK founder Annadurai, saying, “All is one, and one is God,” signaling a balanced approach between religion and reform.

Vijay also targeted DMK heir Udhayanidhi Stalin, criticizing dynastic politics and corruption, while notably sparing AIADMK from direct attacks. Experts suggest this strategy aims to unify pro-AIADMK and pro-religion voters who remain politically untapped.

Vijay’s entry comes amid a resurgence of religious sentiments in Tamil Nadu, a trend the BJP has also attempted to harness. His campaign draws attention for embracing diversity—personally reflected in his family background of interfaith ties—while expanding the Periyar legacy beyond atheism.

With TVK, Vijay aims to reshape Tamil Nadu’s political future by merging social justice with faith, potentially redefining the course of Dravidian politics.
