Kamala Harris’ lead over Donald Trump has narrowed to just one point in the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll, signaling a tightly contested race ahead of the November 5 U.S. presidential election. The survey, conducted over three days and released on Tuesday, shows Harris with 44% of voter support compared to Trump’s 43%. With a margin of error of three percentage points, the race is effectively tied.
Although Harris has led in every Reuters/Ipsos poll since entering the race in July, her margin has steadily shrunk since late September. In a poll conducted from October 16-21, Harris held a two-point lead over Trump.
Trump continues to maintain an edge on key voter issues, with 47% of respondents favoring his approach to the economy and jobs, compared to 37% for Harris. Additionally, 48% of voters support Trump’s stance on immigration, while 33% prefer Harris’ policies on the issue.
Harris has focused her campaign on highlighting Trump’s role in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, framing the election as a choice between democracy and extremism. However, her lead on the issue has dropped from seven points in mid-October to just two points now, with 40% of voters favoring her stance and 38% backing Trump.
With polls showing the candidates locked in key battleground states, voter turnout will be critical in determining the outcome. Both campaigns are urging supporters to vote, with enthusiasm appearing higher than in 2020.
