Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the importance of dialogue over conflict during his address at the 16th BRICS Summit. Advocating for a peaceful resolution to the Russia-Ukraine situation, he called for “single-minded and firm support” from member nations in combating terrorism while warning against double standards on this critical issue.
In his speech, PM Modi highlighted the necessity for collective action against terrorism and radicalization, urging BRICS partners to work together to prevent youth radicalization and promote a comprehensive convention on international terrorism at the United Nations. He stressed, “There is no room for double standards on such serious issues.”
Addressing global challenges, he underscored the need for collaborative efforts to tackle inflation, food security, and cybersecurity threats, stating, “Preventing inflation and ensuring health security are priorities for all countries.”
PM Modi also called for urgent reforms in global institutions like the UN Security Council, urging BRICS members to collectively advocate for these changes. He emphasized that the organization should not be seen as a competitor to existing global institutions but rather as a reformative ally.
As part of the summit, PM Modi is set to hold a key bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, marking the first formal interaction between the leaders in five years.
The Prime Minister’s address sets a positive tone for the future of BRICS collaboration, focusing on unity, reform, and proactive engagement in addressing pressing global issues.
