Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a designated Khalistani terrorist and leader of Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), has issued a fresh warning, urging passengers to avoid traveling on Air India flights between November 1 and 19. Pannun’s threat coincides with the 40th anniversary of the anti-Sikh riots and raises concerns about a potential attack on the airline during this period.
Pannun’s video message also claimed that Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport will remain closed on November 19, adding to the gravity of his threat. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has charged Pannun under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for promoting enmity and conspiracy against the state.
This warning comes amidst escalating tensions between India and Canada following allegations about India’s involvement in the death of another terrorist, Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Pannun, who holds dual citizenship in Canada and the US, has been previously involved in issuing threats, including attacks on the Indian Parliament and political leaders like Punjab’s Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Security agencies in India are on high alert to prevent any disruption and safeguard public safety. Passengers are advised to remain cautious and stay informed about travel advisories from the government and relevant authorities.
The Ministry of Home Affairs designated Pannun a terrorist in July 2020 for advocating secession and anti-national activities. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely to counter any potential threats and maintain law and order.
