The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have released a new video showing Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar in an underground tunnel just hours before the October 7, 2023, terrorist attacks in Israel. Sinwar, the mastermind behind the attacks, was seen in the footage preparing with his family, including children, in the tunnels beneath Gaza. The video, released by IDF spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani, shows Sinwar removing items like a TV and carrying supplies, suggesting preparations to evade detection while the attacks were underway.
Sinwar was killed earlier this week in Rafah during an IDF operation. He was identified through DNA and dental records from his time in Israeli custody. Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, an IDF spokesperson, stated that Sinwar’s actions demonstrated Hamas leaders’ disregard for the civilians of Gaza, using them as human shields while safeguarding their own survival. Sinwar’s death comes after the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, and his role as Hamas chief had solidified him as a key figure within the group.
