Putin Acknowledges PM Modi’s Concern on Ukraine War, Praises BRICS Unity.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, during an address at his official residence in Novo-Ogaryovo, expressed gratitude for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s concern about the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Calling PM Modi a “friend,” Putin lauded India’s diplomatic efforts towards a peaceful resolution to the war. He reaffirmed Russia’s willingness to engage in peace talks, but noted that Ukraine had previously withdrawn from negotiations.
While discussing the conflict, Putin reiterated Russia’s confidence, stating, “We will prevail.” He blamed the United States and NATO for escalating the war, saying, “NATO is waging a war against us” and accused the US of provoking conflicts globally.
Looking ahead to the upcoming 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan on October 22-23, Putin echoed PM Modi’s sentiment, emphasizing that BRICS is not an anti-Western bloc but a cooperative platform focused on fostering global economic growth. He highlighted that the expanded BRICS now represents 24% of global GDP and 41% of the world’s population, reinforcing its potential for worldwide influence.
Putin also expressed enthusiasm for deepening cultural ties with India, showing particular interest in promoting Indian cinema in Russia. Additionally, he addressed international concerns over Gaza and revealed that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has been invited to future BRICS events.
In his closing remarks, Putin emphasized BRICS’ openness to new members and mentioned ongoing discussions about a shared currency, albeit with cautious progress. He affirmed that BRICS’ development will benefit non-member countries as well.
