IDF Confirms Death of Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar Following Military Operation in Gaza.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) officially confirmed the death of Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas chief responsible for orchestrating the deadly October 7 attack on Israel last year. Sinwar was killed during an encounter with Israeli troops on October 16 in southern Gaza, following a year-long manhunt.

The operation took place in the Tal El Sultan area, where infantry troops from the Bislach Brigade identified three suspected militants moving between buildings. A gunfight ensued, forcing Sinwar to seek refuge in a ruined building. In response, Israeli forces deployed tank shells and a missile, targeting the structure.

IDF drone footage captured Sinwar injured and covered in dust, slumped in a chair. He was initially identified only as a fighter. After the troops returned to the site the next day, they recognized the body as resembling Sinwar. To confirm his identity, part of his finger was sent to Israel for DNA testing.

Sinwar, 61, had been previously imprisoned in Israel from the late 1980s until 2011, during which he underwent brain surgery by an Israeli surgeon. Extensive medical records, dental imprints, and DNA samples facilitated his identification. Orthodontic specialists confirmed his jaw structure, further validating the findings.

Yahya Sinwar was a key figure in Hamas operations, including last year’s attack, which resulted in over 1,200 deaths and the capture of 251 hostages. His death marks a significant development in Israel’s counter-terrorism efforts.

Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari stated, “Sinwar tried to escape, but our forces eliminated him.”
