Republican mega-donor Miriam Adelson has donated $1 million to Georgia Governor Brian Kemp’s super PAC, “Hardworking Americans,” according to federal campaign finance records. The contribution is expected to bolster Kemp’s get-out-the-vote efforts in Georgia for Donald Trump and other Republican candidates in the highly competitive 2024 elections.
The donation highlights a possible reconciliation between Kemp and Trump, who had clashed publicly over Georgia’s 2020 election results. Kemp refused to halt the certification of President Joe Biden’s victory in Georgia, a move that angered Trump. In recent weeks, efforts to mend their relationship have gained momentum, with Trump publicly acknowledging Kemp’s support on social media after the governor expressed backing for Trump’s White House bid during an interview with Sean Hannity.
This development comes as Georgia emerges as a crucial battleground state in the 2024 presidential race, where Trump faces Democratic nominee Kamala Harris. Trump narrowly lost Georgia in 2020 by just 11,779 votes.
Adelson, one of the top Republican donors in the country, facilitated the connection between Kemp and Trump ally Senator Lindsey Graham, who helped initiate discussions between the two. While the donation strengthens the partnership, lingering tensions remain, as evidenced by recent public disagreements between Kemp and Trump regarding Georgia’s disaster response.
Governor Kemp’s campaign efforts are expected to intensify in the coming weeks as Republicans prepare for key events, including the Republican Jewish Coalition’s leadership conference in Las Vegas.
