The tragic murder of Baba Siddique, a prominent Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader, has shocked political circles and the public. Siddique was shot dead on the night of October 12, 2024, outside his son Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Bandra, Mumbai. The attackers, three in total, opened fire, and although Siddique was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde confirmed that two suspects have been arrested, with the third still at large. The suspects, identified as Gurmail Baljit Singh and Dharmaraj Kashyap, allegedly conducted a recce of Siddique’s residence and office for over a month before carrying out the assassination. The involvement of gangsters, including Lawrence Bishnoi, is being investigated, with connections to prior threats Siddique had received 15 days before the attack.

The political community, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray, expressed their outrage and concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in Maharashtra. Siddique’s death has led to calls for strict government action and an overhaul of the state’s security system. Bollywood stars and politicians alike have paid their respects to Siddique, known for his close ties to the film industry and his long political career in Maharashtra.

The investigation into the murder is ongoing, with police focusing on uncovering the motives behind the attack and bringing the third assailant to justice.
