Akhilesh Yadav and Samajwadi Party Protest Barricading at JP Narayan Centre in Lucknow.
Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav and his party members staged a protest at the Jayaprakash Narayan International Centre (JPNIC) in Lucknow after the installation of tin sheets blocked their entry. The protest occurred on the eve of Jayaprakash Narayan’s birth anniversary, with SP workers climbing barricades and waving party flags, accusing the BJP government of preventing them from paying tribute to the socialist leader.
Akhilesh Yadav criticized the BJP government, claiming the tin sheets were erected to “hide something” and questioned the future of the JPNIC, which houses a museum dedicated to socialist leaders. The SP chief also garlanded a statue of Jayaprakash Narayan outside his home amid heightened security.
In response, the BJP dismissed Yadav’s claims as “childish,” with Uttar Pradesh Minister Suresh Khanna referring to the SP as a “fused transformer,” and emphasizing that the BJP has public support.
The Lucknow Development Authority issued a notice citing safety concerns at the JPNIC construction site, while traffic restrictions were imposed, and police personnel deployed to manage the situation. Water cannons and tear gas vehicles were stationed to address any protests.
Akhilesh Yadav, who inaugurated the JPNIC during his tenure as Chief Minister, continued to express his dissatisfaction with the BJP government, accusing them of disrespecting socialist leaders and suppressing democratic expressions.
