The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has strongly condemned the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summons issued to its President, K Meghachandra Singh, calling it an act of “political vendetta.” MPCC spokesperson N Bupenda Meitei accused the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in Manipur of using the ED to intimidate opposition leaders.
Speaking at a press conference at Congress Bhawan, Meitei emphasized Meghachandra’s unwavering commitment to the people of Manipur. “As an elected legislator and party president, Meghachandra has fearlessly spoken out against the BJP’s double-engine government. He has exposed the failures of both the state and central governments, especially during the ongoing crisis since May 2023,” Meitei stated.
The summons, delivered to Meghachandra’s home, required his immediate appearance in New Delhi on October 7, 2024, which Meitei criticized as unrealistic. Meghachandra was unable to attend on such short notice.
Meitei slammed the ED’s move as a deliberate attempt to silence the Congress and shift attention away from the government’s “colossal failures” in Manipur. He reiterated that Congress, under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, will continue to stand strong for the people.
“This is an act of vengeance, but we will not be silenced. The Congress will keep advocating for justice and accountability,” Meitei concluded.
