CBI Files Chargesheet in RG Kar Hospital Case: Ex-Principal and Kolkata Police Officer Under Investigation.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is set to file a supplementary chargesheet in the ongoing investigation of the tragic rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata. Sources confirm that the chargesheet will name former principal Sandip Ghosh and Kolkata Police officer Abhijit Mondal for allegedly attempting to cover up the crime and destroy critical evidence.
The trainee doctor’s body was discovered on August 9, 2024, by a colleague just before ward rounds. The incident led to nationwide protests from resident doctors demanding better security measures. The Supreme Court has since taken cognizance of the case, with hearings continuing.
Earlier, the CBI filed its initial chargesheet at Sealdah Court, implicating Kolkata Police civic volunteer Sanjoy Roy under sections 64 and 66 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rape and section 103(1) for murder. The possibility of gang-rape has been ruled out.
While Ghosh and Mondal were not named in the initial chargesheet, the CBI highlighted their roles in hushing up the crime, prompting their arrests. Ghosh is also being investigated in a separate CBI case related to financial irregularities during his tenure at RG Kar Medical College.
The investigation continues as the CBI works to ensure justice for the victim.
