Nasrallah’s Final Hours: Hezbollah Chief Agreed to Ceasefire Before Fatal Israeli Strike
  • PublishedOctober 3, 2024

Lebanon’s Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib claimed that Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah had agreed to a ceasefire with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu just hours before his death in an Israeli airstrike. Speaking to PBS, Bou Habib said Nasrallah’s decision was fully backed by Lebanon and communicated to the U.S. and France.

The ceasefire, proposed by allies after discussions between U.S. President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron, was set for September 25. However, Netanyahu later rejected the agreement and ordered continued military action.

Nasrallah was killed on September 27 when his Beirut bunker was bombed, reportedly after Iran’s Supreme Leader warned him to flee the country. Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati has since called for an immediate ceasefire, as over 1.2 million people in Lebanon have been displaced by ongoing Israeli attacks.
