Israel Prepares for Lebanon Ground Offensive Amid Growing Tensions with Hezbollah.
The Israeli military is preparing for a potential ground invasion of Lebanon as conflict with Hezbollah intensifies. Israeli military chief Lt Gen Herzi Halevi instructed troops to get ready for ground operations, following airstrikes aimed at degrading Hezbollah’s infrastructure. Over 600 people have been killed in Lebanon since Monday as Israel seeks to dismantle the Iran-backed militant group.
Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden warned of the possibility of an “all-out war” if hostilities continue, calling for urgent diplomatic efforts to avoid further escalation. France and the US are working with the United Nations to broker a 21-day ceasefire along the Lebanon-Israel border, to foster peace negotiations.
UN figures reveal that approximately 90,000 people in Lebanon have been displaced by the latest round of violence, adding to the 110,000 who had already fled. Lebanese health authorities reported 72 deaths and 233 injuries on Wednesday alone.
In response to Hezbollah’s missile attack on Tel Aviv, Israeli air defences intercepted the strike. Israel retaliated by hitting more than 280 Hezbollah targets across Lebanon.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for restraint, urging all parties to cease the violence and prioritize diplomacy to avoid a humanitarian disaster. Talks continue at the UN as the international community seeks a peaceful resolution to the escalating conflict.
