BookMyShow Calls for Action Against Illegal Reselling of Coldplay Concert Tickets.
BookMyShow has launched a formal police investigation into third-party platforms that facilitated the resale of Coldplay concert tickets at inflated prices, some reaching up to ₹7.7 lakh for tickets originally priced at ₹12,500. This comes after a wave of frustration among fans who were unable to secure tickets for the highly anticipated Coldplay Music Of The Spheres World Tour in Mumbai, scheduled for January 2025.
Digital creator Simone Khambatta voiced the concerns of many fans who, despite trying for hours on BookMyShow, found that resellers were offering tickets at exorbitant rates on platforms like Viagogo, even before they were sold out on the official site. BookMyShow’s servers struggled to accommodate over 1.3 crore Indians attempting to purchase tickets, further fueling frustration over the monopoly and potential loopholes in ticket sales.
This isn’t the first time ticket reselling has come under fire in India. The reselling market gained attention after similar issues arose during ticket sales for Diljit Dosanjh’s tour. With platforms like Viagogo and TicketTransfer listing tickets at triple their original prices, fans are calling for stricter regulation.
BookMyShow is urging authorities to make the resale of concert tickets illegal in India, ensuring a fair process for fans and protecting them from exorbitant pricing.
