Chhaya Kadam Celebrates ‘Laapataa Ladies’ as India’s Official Entry for Oscars 2025.

Actor Chhaya Kadam has expressed immense pride and joy over Laapataa Ladies being selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars 2025. Speaking exclusively to India Today Digital, Kadam, who plays the pivotal role of Manju Mai in the film, shared her excitement for this prestigious achievement. “It is a moment of pride for me and the entire team,” Kadam said.

Currently in Paris for the premiere of her Grand Prix-winning film All We Imagine As Light, she expressed mixed emotions as this film, though shortlisted by France, did not secure an Oscar entry. “I am happy for Laapataa Ladies, but I also feel a little sad for All We Imagine As Light. Both films are very close to my heart,” Kadam remarked.

Reflecting on the journey of her character, Manju Mai, Kadam said, “I’ve received such love for the role. Though the character had limited screen time, audiences connected with her deeply, which means the world to me.”

The film, directed by Kiran Rao, triumphed over other contenders like Animal, Kalki 2898 AD, and Sam Bahadur to represent India at the Oscars. Kadam congratulated Rao upon hearing the news and remains hopeful that this entry will make waves on the global stage.

Laapataa Ladies marks a significant milestone in Kadam’s career, one that she describes as a “dream come true.”
