Clashes Erupt at Delhi University’s Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College Over DUSU Polls, Student’s Turban Falls During Assault.

Tensions flared at Delhi University’s Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College on Sunday, as clashes between two student groups escalated, leading to the assault of a student, during which his turban fell. The incident, captured on video, has gone viral, sparking outrage within the community.

The confrontation erupted outside the principal’s office after the college authorities announced their decision not to participate in the September 27 Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, following directions from the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC).

The video shows students gathering outside the office, where a student in a red turban was suddenly pulled, beaten, and kicked by others. During the assault, his turban fell, and while some students intervened, the situation escalated.

The assaulted student has since filed a police complaint, leading to the registration of an FIR under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), including provisions against deliberate acts to outrage religious feelings and criminal intimidation.

Protests from student groups, including the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), have intensified over the college’s decision to hold its own elections with office bearers nominated by the Staff Advisory Committee. The ABVP has filed a petition in court, challenging the DSGMC colleges’ disassociation from DUSU.

The college principal, Gurmohinder Singh, confirmed that the decision was in line with DSGMC directives.
