The Government of India has appointed Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh as the next Chief of the Air Staff. He will assume the position of Air Chief Marshal on September 30, 2024, succeeding Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari, PVSM, AVSM, VM, ADC, who will retire on the same day.
Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh, currently serving as Vice Chief of the Air Staff, brings nearly four decades of distinguished service in the Indian Air Force (IAF). Commissioned into the fighter stream on December 21, 1984, Singh has held numerous key leadership roles, including Commanding Officer of a MiG-27 squadron and Air Officer Commanding of an air base.
Singh has demonstrated exceptional leadership in various capacities as an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College (Wellington), and National Defence College. Before assuming his current role, he commanded the prestigious Central Air Command (CAC) and served as Senior Air Staff Officer at Eastern Air Command.
In recognition of his exemplary service, Air Marshal Singh was awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2019 and the Param Vishisht Seva Medal in 2023.
As the new Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Singh is set to lead the Indian Air Force into its next phase of strategic development and modernization.
