In a tragic incident from Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, a young woman named Meena was brutally beaten and strangled to death by her husband, Sundar, for not fulfilling his dowry demands. Sundar, a resident of Baikheda village, had been married to Meena for two years and had persistently demanded a TVS Apache bike and ₹3 lakh as dowry. Despite enduring harassment over the demands, Meena could not meet them, a concern she had shared with her father.
Meena had been staying at her father’s home in Soharka since Rakshabandhan, likely seeking refuge from the abuse. Sundar continued to visit her daily, even dining with her family, maintaining an appearance of normalcy. However, on Sunday night, he took Meena back to their home, where he once again confronted her about the dowry. In a violent rage, Sundar beat her with sticks and then strangled her to death before fleeing the scene.
The police have registered a case based on Meena’s family’s complaint and are actively searching for Sundar, who remains at large. Meena’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to support the ongoing investigation.
