Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee Extends Final Invitation to Protesting Doctors for Talks.
  • PublishedSeptember 16, 2024

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has extended a fifth and final invitation to the protesting doctors for a discussion at her Kalighat residence today at 5 pm. The ongoing deadlock between the government and the doctors, following the tragic rape-murder of a Kolkata doctor, remains unresolved.

In a letter issued by the Bengal Chief Secretary, the doctors were urged to approach the talks with an “open mind” and work towards a solution. The protesting doctors are currently holding a general body meeting to decide whether they will accept the Chief Minister’s invitation for talks.

The letter also acknowledged the previous agreement between the two sides regarding the absence of live streaming or videography during the meeting due to the matter being sub judice in the highest court of the country. Instead, the minutes of the meeting will be recorded and signed by both parties for transparency.

The same delegation of doctors that participated in earlier discussions has been requested to reach the CM’s residence by 4:45 pm for the scheduled meeting.

“We trust that good sense will prevail, and we hope for a productive and fruitful discussion that resolves the issues at hand,” the letter added.

A resolution to the ongoing protests and the related concerns is highly anticipated, as both sides prepare for this critical dialogue.
