Vinesh Phogat Criticizes Lack of Support from Indian Olympic Association and PT Usha During Paris Olympics 2024.

Former Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has publicly criticized the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and its President PT Usha for the lack of support during her tumultuous journey at the Paris Olympics 2024. Despite becoming the first Indian woman to qualify for the wrestling final at the Games, Phogat faced a heartbreaking disqualification after failing her weigh-in by just 100g, crushing her dreams of securing an Olympic medal.

In a candid interview, Phogat expressed her disappointment, particularly with PT Usha, who she claims only engaged in token gestures, such as taking pictures, rather than providing substantial support. “PT Usha madam visited me at the hospital, clicked a photo, and shared it on social media, claiming to stand with me. But in reality, there was no support,” Phogat remarked, emphasizing her frustration with the politics she believes overshadowed her efforts.

Following her disqualification, Phogat took the initiative to appeal her case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), seeking a joint silver medal. Despite her efforts, the ruling did not come in her favor, and she returned from Paris empty-handed. Reflecting on the experience, Phogat expressed that it was her responsibility to file the case, criticizing the Indian government’s delayed involvement.

Phogat, who recently announced her retirement from wrestling, has since transitioned into politics, joining the Indian National Congress.
