Mamata Banerjee Denies Bribery Allegations, Calls Them Baseless Slander.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee strongly refuted allegations on Monday that Kolkata Police offered a bribe to the parents of a trainee doctor who was tragically raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College. Banerjee labeled the accusations as slander against her government, insisting that no such offer was made.

The controversy arose after the victim’s father claimed that police attempted to cover up the case and offered money to the family to stay silent. “The police, from the very beginning, tried to hush up the case. We were not allowed to see the body and had to wait at the police station while the body was taken for a post-mortem examination,” the father alleged. In response, Chief Minister Banerjee stated, “I have never offered money to the deceased doctor’s family; this is nothing but slander.”

Banerjee further clarified, “I told the parents that money can never compensate for a life, but if they wish to honor their daughter’s memory, the government stands by their side.”

The Trinamool Congress also released a video in which the victim’s father denied the bribery allegations, calling them “baseless rumors.”

The case, which involves the rape and murder of a second-year postgraduate medical student on August 9, is being investigated by the CBI, with the investigation nearing its conclusion.
