Pakistani Man Arrested for Plotting Attack on Jewish Center in Brooklyn on Hamas Anniversary.
Federal authorities announced today the arrest of a Pakistani national, Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, in Canada for allegedly plotting a mass shooting at a Jewish center in Brooklyn on the one-year anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attack that escalated the Middle East conflict.
Khan, 20, also known as Shahzeb Jadoon, was apprehended on September 4. According to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, Khan intended to “slaughter, in the name of ISIS, as many Jewish people as possible” in New York City. The arrest was part of a joint operation between Canadian and U.S. law enforcement agencies.
Khan is accused of attempting to provide material support and resources to ISIS. The Department of Justice revealed that Khan had been sharing ISIS propaganda online and discussing plans to form an ISIS cell to target Jewish communities in the U.S. His communications with undercover law enforcement officers detailed his intention to attack a Jewish center in Brooklyn, a location he selected due to its significant Jewish population.
Canadian authorities have confirmed Khan’s detention and his upcoming appearance in the Superior Court of Justice in Montreal on September 13. Michael Duheme, Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, condemned the planned attack, stating, “This antisemitic act of terror has no place in Canada.”
Khan’s plot highlights ongoing threats against Jewish communities, emphasizing the need for continued vigilance and cooperation between international law enforcement agencies.
