Bajrang Punia Fires Back at Brij Bhushan Singh Over Vinesh Phogat ‘Cheating’ Accusation

Olympic bronze medallist Bajrang Punia has slammed former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for his comments about wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification from the Paris Olympics. Singh, the ex-BJP MP, claimed Phogat “deserved to be disqualified” and accused Punia of going to the Asian Games without trials.

Responding to Singh’s remarks, Punia, now a Congress leader, criticized Singh’s mentality. “It wasn’t just Vinesh’s medal, it was the medal of 140 crore Indians,” Punia said in an interview, accusing Singh of celebrating Phogat’s disqualification. He further stated, “Those who gloat at her loss, are they true patriots?”

Punia and Phogat, who led last year’s protest against Singh over sexual harassment allegations, recently joined the Congress. At a press conference, Punia vowed to work hard for the party and the country, while Phogat was announced as a Congress candidate for Haryana’s Julana constituency ahead of the state’s upcoming assembly elections.
