Ant Group, the fintech giant backed by Alibaba, has launched a groundbreaking AI-powered mobile app, Zhixiaobao, designed to simplify everyday tasks for users. Unveiled on Thursday in Shanghai, the app marks Ant Group’s significant move into the artificial intelligence sector, joining global tech leaders like Google, Meta, and Microsoft in advancing AI integration.
Zhixiaobao is an innovative “life assistant” that empowers users to seamlessly order meals, hail taxis, book tickets, and explore local dining and entertainment options. It also integrates smoothly with Ant Group’s popular digital payment platform, Alipay, enhancing the user experience by providing a one-stop solution for daily needs.
“Alipay is committed to harnessing AI’s potential to improve the user experience, ensuring that AI assistants like Zhixiaobao become valuable tools in everyday life for all,” said Cyril Han, President of Ant Group, in the official press release.
The launch of Zhixiaobao comes amid Ant Group’s ongoing transformation following the Chinese government’s halt of its initial public offering (IPO) in 2020. The company has since been adapting its business model to align with regulatory requirements, including paying a significant fine of 7.1 billion yuan (US$984 million) last year. Despite these challenges, Ant Group continues to innovate and expand its offerings.
The app is powered by Ant Group’s BaiLing foundation model, a large language model approved by Chinese authorities last year. In addition to Zhixiaobao, Ant Group announced new AI-driven products for merchants, healthcare service users, and insurance at the Shanghai event.
