India’s para-athlete Sachin Khilari clinched a silver medal in the men’s shot put F46 event at the Paris Paralympics, setting a new Asian record with a throw of 16.32 meters. The 2023 and 2024 world champion’s remarkable performance at Stade de France placed him second only to Canada’s Greg Stewart, marking a significant achievement for Indian athletics.

Khilari’s consistent performance was evident from the start, with his best throw coming on his second attempt. Competing against some of the world’s best, he maintained his position in the top two throughout the event. His silver medal adds to India’s tally, making it the 11th medal in para-athletics at the 2024 Paralympics.

Sachin Khilari’s journey to the podium has been nothing short of inspirational. Despite facing a severe injury at the age of nine, which led to the loss of function in his left hand, Khilari’s determination never wavered. Under the guidance of coach Arvind Chavan, he transitioned from javelin to shot put, where he has since excelled.

Khilari’s achievement in Paris follows his gold medal wins at the World Para Athletics Championship and the Hangzhou Asian Para Games. His perseverance and dedication, despite financial hardships, have made him a standout athlete in India’s para sports community.

As Khilari continues to push the boundaries of his sport, his latest triumph in Paris is a testament to his resilience and an inspiration to many.
