Trinamool Congress Rebukes MLA Lovely Maitra for Remarks Against Protesting Doctors.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has issued a stern warning to Sonarpur Dakshin MLA Arundhuti Maitra, also known as Lovely Maitra, following her controversial remarks against doctors protesting over the tragic rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar College and Hospital in Kolkata. Maitra, who referred to the protesting doctors as “butchers,” has been instructed by the party to refrain from making such statements.
The controversy arose when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) shared videos on social media platform X, where Maitra could be heard calling the doctors “butchers” and criticizing their ongoing protests. In one video, the MLA stated, “Day by day, doctors are turning into butchers. What are they doing in the name of protest?” She further expressed concern over the impact on the poorest patients, who rely on government hospitals for medical care.
TMC has condemned Maitra’s remarks and emphasized the importance of maintaining respect and decorum, particularly in such sensitive situations. The party reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the concerns of all citizens, including healthcare professionals, while ensuring that public discourse remains respectful.
This incident comes amid ongoing tensions between the BJP and TMC, following the prolonged protests over the tragic incident on August 9. The TMC has reiterated its support for justice in the case while urging all party members to act responsibly and sensitively in their public statements.
