Kangana Ranaut Reveals Close Call with Losing Debut Role in ‘Gangster’.
  • PublishedSeptember 2, 2024

Acclaimed actor Kangana Ranaut recently shared a surprising anecdote from the early days of her career, revealing that she almost lost her debut role in the 2006 film Gangster: A Love Story due to concerns about her age. In a candid interview with The Lallantop, Kangana disclosed that filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt initially believed she was too young for the part, which nearly led to Chitrangada Singh being cast instead.

Recalling her audition experience, Kangana stated, “I was auditioning for several roles at that time and went to Juhu for an audition with Anurag Basu, who had just made the hit film Murder. He asked me to perform a few scenes, including a drunk scene and an emotional dialogue. A few days later, I was informed that I had been finalized, but soon after, Anurag called me again to say I had lost the role because Bhatt Sahab thought I was too young.”

However, fate intervened. Kangana added, “A few days later, Anurag called again to tell me I got the role back because Chitrangada Singh wasn’t responding to calls.”

Kangana went on to deliver a stellar performance in Gangster: A Love Story, earning her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut and marking the beginning of her successful Bollywood journey.

Kangana is now gearing up for the release of her upcoming film Emergency, slated to hit theaters on September 6, 2024.
