India Celebrates as Nishad Kumar Wins Silver in Men’s High Jump at Paris Paralympics
  • PublishedSeptember 2, 2024

India rejoices as Nishad Kumar secures a silver medal in the Men’s High Jump T47 event at the Paris Paralympics, with a season-best jump of 2.04 meters. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in congratulating the 24-year-old para-athlete, hailing his achievement as a testament to passion and determination.

“Congrats to @nishad_hj for his remarkable achievement in winning a Silver medal in the Men’s High Jump T47 event at the #Paralympics2024!” tweeted the Prime Minister. “He has shown us all that with passion and determination, everything is possible. India is elated.”

Nishad’s impressive performance earned him second place behind USA’s Roderick Townsend, who claimed the gold with a 2.12-meter jump. This silver medal adds to Nishad’s already illustrious career, following his previous silver in the same event at the Tokyo Paralympics three years ago.

Nishad’s journey to becoming one of India’s top para-athletes is nothing short of inspirational. At the age of six, he suffered a tragic accident on his family farm, resulting in the loss of his right hand. Despite this early adversity, Nishad’s dedication to athletics has propelled him to the pinnacle of his sport.

With this latest victory, India’s medal tally in the athletics events at the Paris Paralympics has risen to three, reflecting the nation’s growing prowess on the global stage.
