A shocking case of road rage in Mumbai has led to the arrest of a couple after they violently assaulted an Ola cab driver following a minor collision involving their Audi. The incident, which occurred on the night of August 18 near Asalpha Metro station in Ghatkopar, has been widely circulated on social media, prompting public outrage.
The altercation began when Qayamuddin Ansari, a 24-year-old Ola driver, was rear-ended by an Audi while driving a passenger towards Ulwe in Navi Mumbai. When Ansari exited his car to assess the damage, the couple in the Audi, identified as Rishabh Chakraborty, a 35-year-old journalist, and his wife Antara Ghosh, 27, began verbally abusing him. In a further escalation, Ghosh allegedly removed the Ola cab device from Ansari’s vehicle and attempted to drive away.
Determined to confront them, Ansari followed the Audi, leading to another collision at the entrance of a building opposite a mall in Ghatkopar. It was here that the situation took a violent turn. CCTV footage from the building’s entrance captured Chakraborty slapping Ansari, then lifting and slamming him to the ground, head first. The brutal assault left Ansari with head injuries, requiring immediate medical attention.
Ansari was initially treated at Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar before being transferred to JJ Hospital due to the severity of his injuries. The video of the assault has gone viral, sparking widespread condemnation and bringing attention to the dangers of road rage.
The Mumbai Police have booked Rishabh Chakraborty and Antara Ghosh for the assault. The case serves as a stark reminder of how minor road incidents can escalate into serious violence, with potentially life-threatening consequences.
