Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’ Faces Certification Delay Amid Threats to Censor Board.

Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut has confirmed that her highly anticipated film Emergency has not yet been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). In a recent video shared on X, the actor addressed rumors suggesting that the film had received approval from the censor board, clarifying that the certification process has been put on hold due to threats received by the board.

Emergency, set to release in theaters on September 6, 2024, features Kangana as former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The film’s certification was initially approved, but concerns arose after the CBFC started receiving death threats over certain scenes, including the assassination of Indira Gandhi and the portrayal of the Punjab riots.

Kangana expressed her frustration in the video, stating, “There is pressure being put on us to remove certain scenes… What are we supposed to do—blackout the film during these scenes? This is unbelievable to me, and I am deeply sorry for the current state of thinking in this country.”

The film is also facing potential bans, with Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy considering a ban after the Telangana Sikh Society accused the film of depicting their community negatively. The state government is reviewing the matter pending legal consultation.

Despite the challenges, Kangana Ranaut continues to promote Emergency, which also stars Anupam Kher. The film’s release is eagerly awaited as its September 6 premiere approaches.
