Kolkata Tragedy: Shocking Calls to Family Before Doctor’s Fate Revealed
On August 9, the parents of a Kolkata doctor received three disturbing calls about their daughter, who was later found to have been raped and murdered in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The first call, made by the hospital’s assistant superintendent, urged the parents to come to the hospital immediately, stating that their daughter was unwell. When the victim’s father sought more details, the caller hesitated, merely repeating that the doctors would explain everything upon their arrival.
The anxiety in the caller’s voice escalated with each call. During the second, he revealed that her condition was critical, leaving the parents in growing distress. The third and final call delivered a devastating blow: the man suggested their daughter might have committed suicide or died, adding that the police were already present at the hospital.
This harrowing sequence of events unfolded as the doctor, on a grueling 36-hour shift, sought rest in the seminar hall of the hospital. There, she was allegedly attacked by Sanjay Roy, who was later arrested after CCTV footage showed him entering the hall at 4:03 am. The autopsy confirmed the worst fears—she had been raped and murdered.
This incident has sparked outrage, with protests from junior doctors demanding justice for their colleague. The tragedy has shaken the medical community and raised serious concerns about safety within hospital premises.
