In a chilling incident, the bodies of two Dalit girls, aged 15 and 18, were discovered hanging from a tree in Uttar Pradesh’s Farrukhabad district on Tuesday morning. The tragic discovery was made in a mango orchard near Kayamganj, sparking shock and suspicion among the local community.
Farrukhabad Superintendent of Police (SP) Alok Priyadarshi reported that the girls, who were neighbors and close friends, were last seen on Monday night when they went to the village temple to view a Sri Krishna Janmashtami tableau. When they didn’t return home, their families launched a frantic search, only to find their bodies hanging from a tree early the next morning.
Priyadarshi stated that both bodies were found hanging from opposite ends of a single dupatta, raising initial suspicions of a possible suicide pact. However, the investigation remains open, with a mobile phone and a SIM card found near the scene being key pieces of evidence.
Despite the police’s preliminary suggestion of suicide, the father of one of the girls vehemently rejected this notion, alleging that his daughter and her friend were murdered. He recounted how they had gone out twice that evening, and after they failed to return, he scoured the village in search of them. His worst fears were confirmed when a relative discovered the bodies at dawn.
The girls’ bodies have been sent for postmortem as the investigation continues, with the police pledging to uncover the truth behind this disturbing incident.
