Modi Shares Insights from Ukraine with Putin: India Reaffirms Stand on Peace
  • PublishedAugust 27, 2024

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a crucial phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, following his recent visit to Kyiv, where he met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The dialogue emphasized India’s stance on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Modi shared insights from his Ukraine visit, reiterating India’s commitment to a peaceful resolution of the conflict. “We are not neutral; from the beginning, we’ve chosen the side of peace. India, the land of Buddha, has no place for war,” Modi emphasized. He assured that India remains steadfast in respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations.

This discussion follows Modi’s earlier visit to Moscow, where he urged Putin to prioritize dialogue and diplomacy over military solutions. Despite India’s close ties with Russia, Modi’s message remains clear: the battlefield offers no lasting solution.

Meanwhile, the Russia-Ukraine conflict continues with no end in sight. On Monday, Russian missile and drone attacks hit multiple locations across Ukraine, including the capital Kyiv, causing casualties and fires. A strike on Kryvyi Rih in southern Ukraine claimed two lives, while Kyiv’s air defenses successfully intercepted the attacks, although debris triggered forest fires.

As the war enters its second year, India’s diplomatic engagements underscore its role as a proponent of peace and a potential mediator in the ongoing crisis.
