Acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, known for his fascination with the macabre, recently shared an eerie experience on social media while filming in Scotland. The director, who is currently working on a highly anticipated adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, reported encountering a supernatural presence in his hotel room.
Del Toro, who was in Scotland for the project, revealed that he chose to stay in a hotel room that a producer had vacated due to unsettling experiences. “Odd electrical and physical occurrences scared her into leaving,” del Toro shared. Despite his initial skepticism, the filmmaker soon sensed an “oppressive” atmosphere in the room, prompting him to move to another room to ensure a good night’s rest. “I kept [the room] but am sleeping in another room – I need six hours of sleep to have a good shooting day. Something is in that room with me,” he wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Known for his love of horror and the supernatural, del Toro’s encounter has sparked intrigue among fans eagerly awaiting his adaptation of Frankenstein, which will star Oscar Isaac in the lead role. The project has been highly anticipated by both fans of the genre and critics alike, who are eager to see del Toro’s unique vision of the classic tale.
The director has not let the unsettling experience affect the production, which continues on schedule. The film is expected to be a cinematic exploration of Shelley’s timeless story, brought to life with del Toro’s signature style.
