In an inspiring achievement, five-year-old Teghbir Singh from Rupnagar has become the youngest person from Punjab to reach the Mount Everest Base Camp. A 1st standard student at Shiwalik Public School, Ropar, Teghbir embarked on his trek on April 9, 2024, and successfully reached the base camp at an altitude of 5,364 meters (17,500 feet) on April 17, 2024.

The Everest Base Camp, known for its extreme conditions, including low oxygen levels and temperatures as low as -12°C, posed significant challenges. Despite these hurdles, Teghbir’s determination and rigorous preparation enabled him to accomplish this extraordinary feat. His father, Sukhinderdeep Singh, who accompanied him on the trek, shared that Teghbir had been preparing for nearly a year under the guidance of retired coach Bikramjit Singh Ghuman. The training included exercises to boost cardiovascular health and lung capacity, as well as weekly treks to various hilly locations.

Teghbir expressed his joy over the phone, saying, “I knew where I was to reach, and finally I reached and had a picture with my father there.” He also mentioned that reciting “Waheguru” during moments of fatigue helped him persevere.

This remarkable journey not only highlights Teghbir’s courage and resilience but also serves as an inspiration to others. The young mountaineer is expected to return home on April 23, 2024, bringing immense pride to his family, school, and the entire state of Punjab.
