  • PublishedAugust 26, 2024

Hollywood icon Denzel Washington, known for his illustrious career spanning decades, recently opened up about his future in the film industry. In a candid interview with Empire magazine, Washington revealed that he is becoming increasingly selective about the roles he takes on, hinting at the possibility of retirement.

“There are very few films left for me to make that I’m interested in,” Washington shared. He emphasized that for him to commit to a project, it must be driven by an inspiring filmmaker. Speaking about his upcoming collaboration with Ridley Scott on Gladiator 2, Washington expressed his admiration for the legendary director. “I was tremendously inspired by Ridley. We had a great go-round the first time, and here we are again. He’s engaged and excited about life and his next film. He’s an inspiration. We should all want to feel like that at 86,” Washington remarked.

Washington and Scott previously worked together on the critically acclaimed 2007 film American Gangster, which also featured an ensemble cast including Josh Brolin, Idris Elba, and Russell Crowe.

Gladiator 2, set to release in cinemas on November 22, 2024, also stars Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal alongside Washington. As fans eagerly await the film’s release, Washington’s remarks have sparked discussions about the future of one of Hollywood’s most revered actors.
