The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is considering a polygraph test for Dr. Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, in connection with the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor. The young doctor was found brutally murdered in the hospital’s seminar room, where she had gone to rest during a long shift. Following the crime, a civic volunteer, Sanjoy Roy, was arrested after his Bluetooth headphones were found near the scene.
Dr. Ghosh, who resigned two days after the incident, has been under CBI scrutiny due to inconsistencies in his responses during interrogation. The agency is particularly interested in Ghosh’s initial reaction upon hearing about the murder and his actions thereafter, including the delay in handing over the victim’s body to her parents. The CBI has also questioned Ghosh about his involvement in authorizing renovations in rooms adjacent to the crime scene.
A polygraph test is being considered to verify Ghosh’s statements, given the discrepancies noted during his questioning. The CBI’s investigation intensified after the Calcutta High Court pointed out that Ghosh should have been the first person questioned. The Supreme Court has also criticized the West Bengal government for delaying the FIR registration and noted that Ghosh attempted to portray the murder as a suicide. The CBI’s probe continues to explore whether the crime was part of a larger conspiracy.
