The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of “hijacking” the protests surrounding the tragic rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The incident, which has sparked widespread outrage and protests, is now being used by the BJP as part of a broader strategy to destabilize the West Bengal government, according to the TMC.
On Monday, TMC MP Saket Gokhale publicly alleged that the BJP is using a “sinister toolkit” to manipulate the public’s grief and anger for its political gain. He claimed that the BJP’s actions are not motivated by a genuine concern for justice, but rather by a calculated attempt to topple the democratically elected government of West Bengal.
“The BJP has a clear agenda to exploit this horrific crime to fuel unrest and chaos,” said Gokhale. “Instead of allowing the authorities to conduct a fair investigation and deliver justice, they are using the situation to push their own political narrative and destabilize the state government.”
The TMC emphasized that while they fully support the demand for justice in this tragic case, they strongly condemn any attempts to politicize the issue for ulterior motives. The party has urged the public to remain vigilant and not be swayed by what they describe as the BJP’s attempts to manipulate the situation.
As the protests continue, the TMC has called for a united effort to ensure justice for the victim while safeguarding the integrity of West Bengal’s democratic processes.
