Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has unveiled significant measures aimed at empowering women and enhancing public safety during a Raksha Bandhan celebration. In a landmark announcement, Mann revealed the creation of 3,000 new posts for Anganwadi workers across the state. This initiative marks a substantial step towards increasing employment opportunities for women, with recruitment processes already underway.
Mann also highlighted Punjab’s forthcoming role as the first state in India to recruit women for firefighting positions. Amendments to physical criteria for women’s recruitment are being made, reflecting the government’s commitment to inclusive and progressive policies.
Additionally, Mann discussed the progress of the Sadak Surakhya Force, a pioneering safety initiative launched earlier this year. The force, consisting of 1,597 newly recruited personnel and equipped with 144 advanced vehicles, has been instrumental in saving approximately 1,300 lives and recovering valuables worth Rs 90 lakh from accident sites. Deployed along 4,200 km of highways, this force plays a crucial role in enhancing road safety and addressing traffic violations.
The Chief Minister also noted that over 44,700 youth have been appointed to various government positions through a transparent merit-based process, boosting local employment and reducing the urge to seek opportunities abroad.
Mann extended his warm wishes to Punjabis globally on Raksha Bandhan, emphasizing the festival’s celebration of love and protection. He urged everyone to observe the festival with joy and harmony.
