As Delhi gears up for the 78th Independence Day celebrations, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued a crucial advisory for commuters on August 15. Several key roads in the capital will be closed from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m., with only vehicles bearing special parking labels permitted.
Roads to be closed include Netaji Subhash Marg (from Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail), Lothian Road, SP Mukherjee Marg, Chandni Chowk Road, Nishad Raj Marg, Esplanade Road, and sections of Ring Road and Outer Ring Road near ISBT. Additionally, the Old Iron Bridge and Geeta Colony Bridge will also be inaccessible during these hours.
Commuters without parking labels are advised to avoid routes such as C-Hexagon India Gate, Copernicus Marg, Mandi House, Sikandra Road, Mathura Road, BSZ Marg, and sections of Ring Road.
For those traveling between north and south Delhi, suggested alternate routes include Aurobindo Marg, Safdarjung Road, Kamal Ataturk Marg, SPM Marg, and Mandir Marg. East-west commuters are advised to use NH-24, Nizamuddin Khatta, Barapula Road, and Prithviraj Road.
Bus services will also be impacted, with city buses, including DTC, rerouted from midnight on Tuesday to 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Buses from Ghaziabad, Dhaulakuan, and other areas will be redirected, with some services curtailed or terminated early.
Normal bus operations are expected to resume after 11 a.m., once the Independence Day events conclude. Commuters are urged to plan their travel accordingly to avoid disruptions.
