Huawei is poised to lead the smartphone industry into a new era of technology with the upcoming Huawei Mate 80 series, rumored to feature advanced in-display 3D face recognition technology. According to a recent leak by the tipster Fixed Focus Digital on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, the Mate 80 series could debut with this cutting-edge feature, offering enhanced security and privacy to users. The 3D facial recognition technology, which was initially speculated to be part of the Mate 70 series, is now expected to be integrated into the Mate 80, slated for release late next year.
The upcoming Huawei Mate 70 series, anticipated to launch before the end of this year, is also expected to strengthen security measures, with a 3D face recognition sensor reportedly standard across all variants. This marks a significant upgrade from last year’s base model, which lacked this feature.
In addition to the Mate 80 series, Huawei is reportedly developing the world’s first tri-fold smartphone. Recently spotted with Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group, this innovative device is speculated to feature a 10-inch inner display capable of folding thrice, with a front camera housed in a hole-punch cutout on the left-most screen. Powered by a Kirin 9 series processor, which may also drive the Mate 70 series, this tri-fold smartphone promises impressive functionality with “average” thickness despite its complex design. The device is expected to enter mass production soon, signaling Huawei’s continued commitment to pushing the boundaries of smartphone technology.
