A devastating road accident on the Chennai-Thiruthani highway claimed the lives of five college students on Sunday evening near Tiruttani in Tiruvallur district. The accident occurred when a truck collided head-on with the students’ vehicle, resulting in the tragic deaths.
According to the Kanagammachathiram Police, seven students were traveling together when the collision took place. The impact was so severe that the vehicle was completely destroyed, making the extraction of the bodies challenging for the rescue teams. The police and rescue teams promptly arrived at the scene, but despite their efforts, five students were pronounced dead.
Two students survived the crash but sustained injuries and were immediately transported to Thiruvallur Government Hospital for medical treatment. The accident caused significant disruption on the highway, leading to a two-hour traffic delay.
The five deceased students have been identified as residents of Ongole, Andhra Pradesh, and were studying at a private college in Chennai. The truck driver involved in the collision has been detained by the Kanagammachathiram Police, and an investigation into the cause of the accident is currently underway.
